The Department of Education (DepEd) has instituted a National Indigenous Peoples Education (IPEd) Program in pursuit of the National Indigenous Peoples Education Policy Framework based on DepEd Order No. 62, s. 2011 entitled Adopting the National Indigenous Peoples (IP) Education Policy Framework and Republic Act (RA) No. 10533, the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013.
In order to assist higher education institutions (HEIs) to determine the learners who are eligible to proceed to higher education in School Year (SY) 2016-2017, the Department of Education (DepEd) issued DepEd Order (DO) No. 42, s. 2015 entitled High School Graduates Who are Eligible to Enrol in Higher Education Institutions in School Year (SY) 2016-2017.
In line with the effort of the Department of Education (DepEd) to establish a complete and accurate database of learners, the Learner Information System (LIS) will be open from April 6 to May 15, 2016 to allow Encoding, Housekeeping, and Updating of Status of Alternative Learning System (ALS) for Calendar Year (CY) 2015 and Abot-Alam Learner Profiles for CYs 2014 and 2015 on the LIS. This is to address discrepancies in the reports submitted by the schools divisions vis-à-vis the actual data in the LIS, as well as to support the downloading of 2015 continuing funds for the implementation of Abot-Alam in 2016.
The Department of Education (DepEd) issues the enclosed Guidelines on the Organizational Structures and Staffing Patterns of Stand-alone and Integrated Public Senior High Schools (SHS). It aims to provide comprehensive guidelines, standards, and procedures that clearly define the organizational structures and staffing patterns of different types of public senior high schools, as well as clarify the roles and functions of their teaching and non-teaching staff.
The Government Assistance to Students and Teachers in Private Education, consisting of the Education Service Contracting (ESC) and the Teacher Salary Subsidy (TSS), is a demonstration of the Government’s commitment to maintain the viability of private education as a key partner in the delivery of quality basic education.

With the implementation of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Rationalization Plan, several offices were restructured, streamlined or dissolved, including the Bureau of Secondary Education, which previously managed the Government Assistance to Students and Teachers in Private Education (GASTPE) Program. Although the day to day administration of the GASTPE Program is contracted to the Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC), a focal unit is needed in the Central Office to manage policy formulation, implementation, and monitoring nationwide.

To maintain accurate and up-to-date information of learner’s basic profile, enrolment status and end of the school year academic accomplishment for school year (SY) 2015-2016, the online updating through the Learner Information System (LIS) will be available starting March 21, 2016 until April 30, 2016.
