International Cooperation Office (ICO)

Anchored on the goal of improving the institutional capacity of the Department of Education in developing, coordinating, managing, and consequently, fulfilling  international commitments of the country on basic education, DepEd Order 19, s. 2010 was created mandating the International Cooperation Office (ICO) as the clearing house of all international transactions of the Department.

ICO serves as a focal point for DepEd in planning and coordinating international (both bilateral and regional/multilateral) education programmes and activities of the Philippines, such as with SEAMEO, APEC, ASEAN, UNESCO and other UN bodies, among others. Further, this office provides recommendations in establishing international cooperation agenda on basic education based on strategic thrusts and direction of the Department which are crucial in setting/creating protocols, standards, policies and guidelines particularly on entry into and implementation of international bilateral and multilateral agreements, and other pledges of support and commitments.
