DepEd sends delegates to Japan for JENESYS 2016

March 22, 2017

PASIG CITY, March 22, 2017 – The Department of Education (DepEd) sends delegates to Japan for the 2016 Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS): Rugby Exchange.

The JENESYS program is a project of the Japanese government from the standpoint of providing a sound foundation for strong solidarity within Asia through large-scale youth exchange.

“This is a notable program as it fosters mutual understanding and friendly relations between the participating youths of different countries in Asia, which include the Philippines,” DepEd Bureau of Learner Support Services Director Rizalino Jose Rosales said during the Pinning and Send-off Ceremonies for JENESYS delegates held at the DepEd Central Office in Pasig City.

Headed by the Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE), this year’s youth exchange program focuses on rugby sports and will be conducted from March 14 to March 22, 2017. This program aims to enhance Asian countries’ interest in rugby—anticipating the 2019 Rugby World Cup to be held in Japan.

Since 2014, DepEd actively participates in this youth exchange initiative. For this year, DepEd sends 18 students, two high school teachers, one Division Office supervisor, and one DepEd Central Office representative to represent the basic education sector.

Rosales conveyed his message to all the DepEd delegates, “I hope that you will bring with you not only the spirit of adventure, but also the willingness and openness to new ideas and skills.”

Moreover, student delegates will learn diplomacy through sports activities and will play Tag Rugby with students from Japan and other countries. They will also learn about the Japanese society and culture by visiting various Japanese historical landmarks and commercial facilities.

At the end of the program, delegates are encouraged to share their experiences and action plans with their families, friends, people in their home schools and local communities through different information dissemination platforms such as the Social Networking Service (SNS), media, school newsletter, among others.
