Basic Education Research Fund (BERF) Highlights

The department of Education in its continuing initiative towards strengthening evidence-based policy development and decision making is providing fund to eligible proponents from the National, Regional, Schools’ Division Offices, and to the public elementary and secondary schools nationwide. The funds shall come from the Fiscal Year (FY) 2015 General Appropriation Act-Basic Education Research Fund (GAA-BERF) and to succeeding years thereon. DepEd Order 43, s. 2015 provides the Revised Guidelines for the BERF implementation from application, availment, release, utilization, liquidation, monitoring, and reporting. The Policy Research and Development Division-Planning Service (PRD-PS) of Central Office is spearheading the implementation with high hopes of improving the culture of research of the Department. The National Orientation Cum Training in BERF was composed of two clusters. Cluster I was held in Tagaytay International Convention Center, Tagaytay City on November 9-10, 2015 for NCR,CAR, I,II,III,IV-A,IV-B,V, and VI while, Cluster II was held at NEAP Region XI, Davao City on November 12-13, 2015 for Regions VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII,XIII and ARMM. Dr. Amelita P. Givertz, PPRD Chief; Fe L. Alegado, Chief Finance Division; Margarita T. Delima, Planning; Dr. Virginia Sena, Ms. Purisima Polinar and Dr. Diosdado R. Orillaneda, EPS are participants from the Caraga Region. The objectives of the training were; to ensure that participants are familiar with the provisions of D.O No. 43; to orient the National and Regional Committees on their role as research and fund managers, and to capacitate the participants on research, ethics in research and the use of research findings in policy formulation. Eligible research proponents shall utilize the find for the research project anchored on the following thematic areas namely; improving access to education, improving quality of education and improving governance. The Regional Echo Training is tentatively scheduled on January 2016.
