Three gymnasts from General Santos City SPED Integrated will gun for gold in this year’s Palarong Pambansa.
Junna May J. Capili, shined in the 2017 SRAA Meet Rhythmic Gymnastics category last February 18-22, 2017 in Kidapawan City. Capili, a Grade 4 pupil of General Santos City SPED Integrated School wowed the judges with her topnotch performance, sweeping three golds out of four categories in the competition.
Scoring outstanding points of 12.80 in freehand, 11.80 in ball, and 11.875 in rope, Capili, a two-time Palarong Pambansa qualifier, got a total of 47.05 points. At the age of six, she started taking her gymnastics training.. Capili is competitive in both academics and sports, and an honor pupil under the Gifted and Talented Curriculum.
Carl Luisa G. Tan of General Santos City SPED Integrated School took the second place with an overall score of 46.375. Tan got a gold medal in the clubs with a score of 11.995, silver in freehand with 11.865 points, bronze in ball with the score of 10.815, and 11.70 points in rope. Tan is also a two-time Palarong Pambansa qualifier. Tan also brought pride and honor to the school as Munting Mutya ng GenSan 2016.
The third team member Wynette Beatriz B. Jugador, a Grade 3 pupil of General Santos City SPED Integrated School, ranked 5th in the overall individual all-round with 41.57 points. Jugador started her gymnastics training last May 2016. Within 9 months of training, she excelled immediately.
Alongside bronze medalist Athenna Myra M. Noman of South Cotabato, the girls shall represent Region XII in the 2017 Palarong Pambansa with Jonalyn S. Mahilom as their official coach.
According to Ms. Mahilom, discipline and constant practice made these young athletes sure winners.
