Legazpi City, February 18, 2017 – Camarines Sur Division was declared overall champion, dethroning the defending champion Naga City Division, during the awarding ceremonies held at the Bicol University Sports and Tourism Complex on February. 10.
With 69 gold medals, it was an aggressive comeback for Camarines Sur (CamSur) who edged out Naga City by just one gold for the championship.
In the closing program, Assistant Regional Director Tolentino G. Aquino noted the impressive comeback of CamSur, “They must have really prepared for this; their Governor must be really proud,” he said.
Last year, Naga City bagged the most number of gold, seizing the championship from the strong Camarines Sur Division.
CamSur captured the championship in 2013 and 2015, and placed 1st runner-up in 2012 and 2014.  It was only last year when CamSur yielded its might by placing fifth, after Legazpi City who placed fourth.
This year, Naga City is 1st runner-up with 68 gold medals, followed by Albay with 53 gold medals and 56 silver medals, then Legazpi City with 53 gold medals and 48 silver medals, and Camarines Norte with 51 gold medals.
Palarong Bicol Regional Sports Coordinator and Secretary General Ronald Asis said that CamSur will represent the Bicol Team to the 2017 Palarong Pambansa in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique on April 23-29, 2017.
CamSur will be given the privilege to pick and include, at most, three top athletes from the other divisions to reinforce muscles in some team events.
