Reiterating the Implementation of Republic Act No. 1425

- The Department of Education, Culture and Sports reiterates the teaching of the life, works and writings of Jose P. Rizal, specifically Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, as mandated by Republic Act 1425 entitled “An Act to Include in the Curricula of All Public and Private Schools, Colleges and Universities, Courses on the Life, Works and Writings of Jose Rizal, Particularly His Novels, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, Authorizing the Printing and Distribution Thereof, and for Other Purposes”.
- At the elementary level, Rizal’s virtues/values extolling untarnished love of country must be taught and followed specifically in the learning areas of Sibika at Kultura in Grades I-III and in Heograpiya/Kasaysayan/Sibika in Grades IV-VI. Likewise “Noli Me Tangere” and “El Filibusterismo” are required reading in the third and fourth year high school respectively.
- It is hoped that teaching Rizal’s life, shall strengthen nationalism, patriotism, national identity, love of humanity, respect for human rights and appreciation of the role of national heroes in the historical development of the country.
- Immediate and wide dissemination of this Memorandum to all concerned is desired.
