Wednesday, September 16, 2015
Mandaue City sent 12 delegates composed of six (6) athletes, two(2) coaches and three (3)
DepEd officials and one(1) City Official to the Special Olympics World Games held at Los Angeles,
California last July 21 – August 2, 2015.
The special children from Mandaue City were part of the Philippine Team who competed
against 6,500 other athletes from 165 countries. The whole team from Mandaue City was so glad for
the success of these special children, for they had proven that children with special disabilities who
are normally treated, developed and nurtured would bring fulfillment and pride not only to themselves
but to the city as well.
In Athletics, Catherine Alexandra Managay won 1 Gold ( 100 meter run), silvers ( 200 meter
run and dance sport) and 1 Bronze ( 4×100 meter relay; Merasol Cutamora also won 1 Silver ( 200
meter run) and 1 Bronze (4×100 meter relay;
For Badminton, Filbert Cañete won 2 Golds (Men’s Badminton Singles and Unified Badminton),
and 1 Silver (Mixed Double); while Jesabell Cristy Mistula also won 1 Silver (Mixed Double.
In Aquatics, Mizzel Dawa won 1Gold in 25 meter Freestyle.
The Official Coach for Athletics and Aquatics is Ms. Catolina F. Ambray, a teacher from
Mandaue City SPED School, while the Official Coach for Badminton is Ms. Maria Delia Q. Miñoza,
the principal of the same school.
Contributory to the success of these children is the year round training program and motivation
given to them and the support of all stakeholders, both internal and external. This includes the never
ending support of our Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Virginia C. Zapanta; Assistant Schools
Division Superintendent, Dr. Estela B. Susvilla; and the Division Sports Supervisor, Dr. Adeline C.
Luarez. All of these endeavors come a reality due to the financial support given by the Local School
Board heade by Mayor Jonas Cortes and the rest of its member.
We bring back the honor and glory to our god Almighty for all success, experiences and
memories we brought home! Congratulations Everyone!
