Lanao del Norte Division Shines in the BSP-DepEd Oratorical Tilt
Lala National High School of Lanao del Norte Division proved its prowess in oration after the student of that school bested seven others in the recently concluded Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas – Department of Education (BSP-DepEd) 4th National Oratorical Contest, Regional Elimination, held at the Regional Office Conference Hall, 3rd Floor DepEd Regional Office Building, Cagayan de Oro City.
Roscel Iris T. Vios, Grade 10, delivered her piece spontaneously, hitting the time limit of 8-10 minutes. Her piece on the theme, “Maximize the Use of Statistics Towards Health Care Opportunities for All” snatched the attention of the judges to give the highest points among others for Substance, taking the 50% of the overall criteria which involves relevance of the topic to and focus on the theme, originality/creativity, rhetorical organization and grammar. Her coach was Lorna Cagampang.
Joever S. Supat of Malaybalay City National Science High School, Division of Malaybalay City copped second place and John Mark G. Sande of Clarin National High School, Division of Misamis Occidental, third place. The coaches were Ethel Caluna and Juvi Bernard, respectively.
The piece of the first place was clothed with information on the importance of statistics in providing health care opportunities. Roscel challenged the audience saying, “In order to use statistics wholly, fully and amazingly in the field of health, we must think of ways of combining data and think of more approaches that have enormous potentials to enhance the portfolio of health statistics that we are creating. These can provide perspective on the health of populations and the factors that influence the patterns we observe. It is also through proper dissemination of health statistics that we can improve the approaches to use in making improvement in health.”
The regional winner shall compete at the Island Cluster level competition to be held simultaneously in three different venues: Manila, Cebu City, and Davao City on October 2, 2015. Should Roscel make it in the finals, she would receive P 50,000.00 and P 15,000.00 for her coach. The regional winners will receive P 6,000.00; P 4,000.00 and P 3,000.00 for first, second and third places, respectively. Coaches will receive P 2,000.00; P 1,500.00 and P 1,000.00.
