DepEd CAR joins World Teachers’ Day culmination

Luistro lauds heroism of teachers

The Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) with around 350 delegates led by Regional Director Ellen B. Donato and Assistant Regional Director Estela L. Cariño joined the culmination of the National Teachers’ Month and World Teachers’ Day at the Araullo University in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija last October 5.

With the theme, “My Teacher, My Hero,” the event gathered 4,000 public school teachers and administrators from CAR, Regions I, II, and III.

Education Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro, FSC in his keynote speech reiterated the vital contribution of Filipino teachers in institutionalizing educational reforms as well as positively influencing learners.

“If all teachers in the country start to move as one, we will start the biggest revolution in education,” Luistro said.

He further lauded teachers as living heroes since they have the heart to help the young bring about change in the country as well as give hope in making dreams come true.

“Nasa puso ng mga guro ang tunay na kayamanan at kagandahan ng bayan (The true treasure and beauty of the country lies in the hearts of teachers),” he concluded.

A Teachers’ Fair was set up inside the venue which featured exhibits, food booths, product and cultural showcase from division and regional offices as well as booths of private partners or organizations.

The teachers were also treated to surprise performances by popular entertainers including Dingdong Dantes, the chair of the National Youth Commission, Rivermaya, and Ronnie Liang among others.

The National Teachers’ Month started September 5 pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 242 by President Benigno S. Aquino III and culminates every 5th of October as per designation by the United Nations Evaluation and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The event this year was sponsored by the Local Government of Cabanatuan, Smart Communications, Metrobank Foundation, and other partners of DepEd.

The celebration aimed to acknowledge and give emphasis on the crucial role, loyal service and dedicated commitment of teachers in developing globally minded citizens, nurturing families, strengthening communities, and building the nation as well as express gratitude for the positive influences of teachers on Filipino learners.
