2016 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet – Officially Closed

February 12, 2016

The end has come for the preliminaries but the competition is just about to start as the 2016 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet was officially closed last February 12, 2016 at the Enan Chiong Activity Center (ECAC) and declared winners to represent the 2016 Palarong Pambansa this coming April. It has been a week of excellence in sports to test and further drive athletes to where they should be.

The Department of Education – Region 7 together with the efforts of the Local Government Unit of Naga City and the Department of Education – Division of Naga City successfully executed the preliminary phase of the national competition for sports that will happen in April. Its theme, “Go with a Unified Spirit toward Excellence in Sports”, has lived to its promise when the teams for every division, wearing their colors, still came together depicting so much unity in their spirits. Whether they placed first or placed last, the spirit of sportsmanship lingered in their laughters and yells. To recall the words from the OIC-Regional Director, Juliet A. Jeruta, Ph.D., these athletes became not only well-versed in sports but as well became balanced as individuals.

Some of the events that transpired during the closing ceremony were the official declaration of the winners of the 2016 CVIRAA. The winners in this meet will represent the Central Visayas Region and will compete for the many titles for the 2016 Palarong Pambansa. Given another opportunity, Hon. Valdemar Chiong (Mayor of Naga City, Cebu), expressed his intentions in hosting the 2017 CVIRAA Meet next year. In his speech, he was deeply overwhelmed with the success of the event that the only imperfection he can think of was the unfinished construction of the swimming pool that resulted to the execution of the Swimming event in the Cebu City Sports Complex. The rest of the events were successfully done in and the outskirts of Naga City and other areas of Cebu.

In the awarding ceremony, the trophies were handed by Mr. Victor Yntig (Chief, ADMIN- DepEd-RO7), Dr. Flordeliza Sambrano (Chief, HRDD- DepEd-RO7), Dr. Luz Jandayan (Chief, ESSD- DepEd-RO7), Atty. Glenn Condor (Head – Legal Unit), and Hon. Valdemar Chiong (Mayor of Naga City, Cebu). Mr. Victor Yntig officially declared the 2016 CVIRAA Meet close. It was followed by the lowering of the delegation banners by the delegation Heads.
