Meeting with the Promotion Schools for DRR Education Roll-Out of the Project for Capacity Building on Disaster Risk Reduction Education with the Cooperation of the Local Community in Cebu Province

On March 2, 2016, the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD) of Department of Education – Region 7, in partnership with SEEDS Asia, organized a meeting with the Promotion Schools from the School Divisions of Toledo City, Naga City, Carcar City, Talisay City, Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City and Mandaue City for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Education in the rolling-out of their project on Capacity Building on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Education in cooperation with the local community of Cebu Province held in the LRMDC- Library, DepEd-RO7. After its first launch with the Model Schools from the School Divisions of Danao City, Bogo City and Cebu Province – Daan Bantayan District last November 2014, they are now on for the rolling- out of the DRR Education with the seven (7) promotion schools in the South District of Cebu Province.  The said meeting was spearheaded by Emiliano Elnar Jr., Ed.D, (Chief, CLMD-DepEd-RO7) and some staff of SEEDS Asia. As an introduction, they provided information on the DRR Education project and its approaches; for the provision of the project’s accomplishments, a November 2014- January 2016 report, its current project status, and the highlights of the initiatives from the Model Schools were shared; and, for a better orientation on the rolling-out of the said project, the criteria for the nomination of the promotion schools, the implemented processes of DRR Education and role/support of the local government were laid out to the Schools Division Superintendents and some representatives of the promotion schools who attended the meeting. The nomination of the promotion schools and the teachers will be on March 18, 2016 and April 8, 2016, respectively. SEEDS Asia is an international Non – Government Organization from Kobe, Japan which looks into promoting sustainable developments in the different communities in Asia Pacific affected by natural disasters and calamities. Their current project in the Philippines is DRR Education.
