2017 CVIRAA MEET KICKS OFF TODAY
CITY OF NAGA — The 2017 edition of Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) opens today, February 12, 2017, hosted by the City Government of Naga and its City Schools Division, spearheaded by Hon. City Mayor, Atty. Kristine Vanessa T. Chiong and Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Senen P. Paulin, respectively. A total of 7,800 delegates coming from the 13 Schools Divisions of DepEd Region VII, Central Visayas, convene for the second time in Naga City, to compete for this year’s CVIRAA, the highest level of Athletic Meet in the Region. Holding a regional meet twice in a row; last year (2016) and this year (2017), to be exact, has imprinted a history of CVIRAA; thus, the event is dubbed as CVIRAA Balik sa City of Naga. The celebration of the Holy Mass will be unfolded at 2pm at the St. Francis Ocean Park Stage to be followed by a parade routing from the stage and will end at the Teodoro “Doring” Mendiola Sports Oval for the opening program.
Preparations
At least six (6) months before the event, the City of Naga division has been preparing for a more improved CVIRAA. Sports facilities such as the Olympic-size swimming pool and the sports oval have been maintained. Additional facilities were constructed such as the grandstand and the covered court in the oval. Filipino-costumed escorts are to wait and walk with the officials in the oval as the delegations will take turn in presenting their cheer. The motif is based from the story of Malakas and Maganda which symbolizes the unity of the Nagahanons as agreed during the preparation conference. The event goes with the theme: “Sports: Bridging Physical Health and Dexterity to Peace and Unity Efforts”.
