DepEd trains teachers on career guidance

PASIG CITY, February 17, 2017 – In line with the Department of Education’s (DepEd) implementation of the K to 12, about 223 participants composed of teachers, supervisors, and guidance counselors from different public high schools nationwide undergo training on career guidance program.
The Bureau of Learner Support Service (BLSS), through the Youth Formation Division (YFD), conducts the National Training of Trainers and Mass Training of Teachers on the Implementation of Career Guidance Program (CGP) in different venues across the country throughout the month of February.
The month-long training activity aims to build the capacity of trainers to conduct mass training of teachers and to prepare a training plan. Specifically, it aims to equip teachers with concrete understanding on career guidance and with capabilities to perform tasks to effectively deliver the program to the learners.
The innovative K to 12 curriculum targets to produce graduates who are ready for higher education, middle skills development, employment and entrepreneurship.
The CGP intends to guide the Grade 10 entrants to make informed decisions regarding their choice of track when they reach Senior High School (SHS).
The topics of the training include Career Guidance Program Advocacy with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Technical Education and Skills Development Authoriy (TESDA); Legal Bases of Career Guidance Program under RA 9258 and IRR 10533; Basics of Career Guidance; and Trends and Updates of the program.
The participants are those handling Grade 11 learners in all public SHS.
Resource speakers are national trainers composed of licensed guidance counselors and advocates of the program.
