DepED V holds 1st Regional ICT Summit in Legazpi City

Legazpi, Albay- The Department of Education Bicol, in order to improve and strengthen its current Information and Communication Technology (ICT) programs and projects in the aspects of teaching, learning and governance, conducted the 1st Regional ICT Summit in Legazpi City on November 8-9, 2017.

The 2-day event was held at the Casa Blanca Hotel having more than 100 ICT practitioners from DepED Region V as participants of the said activity. Presentation of the Best ICT innovation from each of the participating Schools Division Offices in Bicol and the launching of the divisional booths showcasing the ICT Innovative Projects of the selected schools in the region highlighted the event.

Some of the finest ICT Professionals in the Region were invited to update the participants on the emerging technologies related to ICT. Topics discussed during the two-day session include Educational Technologies Feasible in the Philippines which was discussed by Engr. Joel Balasta, DICT Plans and Project for Government by Engr. Antonio Bonganay from the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) and The Concept of Digital Citizenship and Data Privacy by Mr. Ricardo Tejeresas, Education Program Supervisor for the Alternative Learning System of DepED ROV.

Regional Director Ramon Fiel G. Abcede emphasized in his message the importance of ICT literacy among teachers and DepED personnel. He stated that the employment of ICT programs in teaching and learning, including governance, will support DepED’s target of having a more convenient and efficient implementation of its programs for the learners.
Engineer Ronald C. Asis, Chief of the Education Support Services, who was also present during the event encouraged DepED ICT practitioners to develop more programs to maximize the utilization of the distributed devices under the Deped Computerization Program.

Aside from the lectures and presentations on ICT Innovations, special recognition were also given to the participating Schools Division Office (SDO) for being chosen as the following: SDO Naga as Best ICT Innovation for Teaching and Learning, SDO Camarines Sur as Best ICT for Governance, Masbate Province as Best Divisional Booth/ People’s Choice Award for ICT Innovation.
The chosen best presenter/ project during the event will represent Region V in the selection of the Best ICT Innovation in the upcoming National ICT Summit 2017 on December 7-8, 2017.
