PASIG CITY, November 21, 2018 – The Department of Education (DepEd) extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family of a teacher slain by a man who, in turn, shot himself inside her classroom today in Bocaue, Bulacan.

The Schools Division Office (SDO) of Bulacan, in close coordination with the Philippine National Police-Bulacan, is conducting an investigation on the motive of the suspect. Officials of Tambubong Elementary School have already reached out to the victim’s family to identify and provide the necessary assistance. School operation is currently suspended and will resume tomorrow.

The Department has also confirmed that the learner hit on the shoulder by a stray bullet is now in stable condition. The rest of the learners who witnessed the crime are now undergoing psychological debriefing facilitated by the SDO’s medical team.

The Department does not condone such display of violence in schools. DepEd is consistently working with law enforcement agencies, and assures the public that it is strengthening the necessary measures to ensure that schools continue to be a safe learning environment for its personnel and learners.
