PPRD Leads Orientation on Research Management: Continuously Enhances Culture of Research in DepEd 5

“Enhance the Culture of Research in DepEd Region 5.” This is the strong statement espoused by Assistant Regional Director Cristito A. Eco and Chair of the Regional Research Committee in front of Researchers composed of teaching and non-teaching personnel from the different Schools Division Offices (SDOs) during the Orientation Program held last February 28, 2019 at DepEd Regional Office No. 5, Rawis, Legazpi City. ARD Eco encourages all researchers to continuously engage themselves in conducting a research for the Bikolano learners. He emphasizes the importance of research particularly in dealing with issues relative to the development of learners.
With ARD Eco is Mr. Roy T. Bañas, Planning Officer III, OIC-Chief Education Supervisor of the Policy, Planning, and Research Division. He gives clarification on the proper utilization of the grant from the Basic Education Research Fund (BERF) once it is granted to researchers. In addition, he emphasizes that the focus of research must be in line with the themes presented under DepEd Order No. 39, s. 2016 dated June 10, 2016 or the Adoption of the Basic Education Research Agenda. The themes cover, Teaching and Learning, Child Protection, Human Resource Development, and Governance.
Part of the orientation is the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the researchers and DepEd Region Vrepresented by its Regional Director Gilbert T. Sadsad. The MOA is required under DepED Order No. 16, s. 2017 dated March 20, 2017, otherwise known as the Research Management Guidelines.
A total of 47 researchers signed the MOA, of which 33 are from Camarines Sur,1 from Sorsogon, 1 from Sorsogon City, 2 from Masbate, and 10 from Tabaco City.
In 2018, two (2) Bikolano researchers funded by BERF from DepEd Region 5 received an award for the Best Research Paper (Basic Research Category) during the First National Curriculum Research Conference held in Tagaytay City last November 14-16, 2018.
Mr. Ryan De La Torre from Sorsogon City Division was awarded with the First Prize for his research entitled “Linguistic Similarity and Intelligibility Between Standard Bikol and Sorsogon Dialects” and Michelle G. Hatid-Guadamor of SDO Sorsogon was awarded with the Third Prize for her research entitled, “TNA Based Professional Development Program for Secondary Science Teachers in the Division of Sorsogon”. Both researchers are from Sorsogon.
