April 21, 2021 – The Department of Education (DepEd) invites all Filipino learners who exhibited extraordinary initiatives amidst the challenges in education to join this year’s Global Student Prize (GSP).

In a DepEd advisory, the Global Student Prize 2021 is a $50,000 (Php 2.4M) sister prize to the Global Teacher Prize established by the Varkey Foundation with Chegg.org.

“This is a great opportunity for our hardworking learners who showcased leadership and creativity to help their fellow students and their communities overcome the challenges of the pandemic,” Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones said.

The GSP is open to all students who are at least 16 years old and enrolled in an academic institution or training and skills program. Both part-time students and students enrolled in online courses are also eligible for the prize.

Applicants for the GSP will be judged through the following credentials: academic achievement, impact on peers, making a difference in the community and beyond, overcoming the odds, creativity and innovation, and fostering global citizens.

Winners will be chosen by the GSP Academy composed of educational experts, artists, scientists, sportspeople, public officials, tech entrepreneurs, company directors, and journalists and commentators from around the world.

The top 50 finalists will be inducted as members of the Chegg Changemaker community while the grand winner will share the platform with the winner of the Global Teacher Prize.

The closing date for applications is on April 30, 2021. The winner will be announced at the UNESCO General Conference of Ministers in Paris, France, in November 2021.
