PASIG CITY, March 28, 2022 – In preparation for the incoming class opening, the Department of Education (DepEd) will conduct the Early Registration for School Year (SY) 2022-2023 from March 25 to April 30, 2022.

The month-long activity aims to ensure that incoming learners are registered for the next SY and help the Department better anticipate and deal with the possible challenges and concerns, as stated in the DepEd Order No. 3, s. 2018 or the Basic Education Enrollment Policy.

“All incoming Kindergarten, Grades 1, 7, and 11 learners in all public elementary and secondary schools are encouraged to pre-register to allow the Department to make necessary preparations and adjustment of plans for the incoming School Year,” Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones said.

Briones also noted that Grades 2-6, 8-10, and 12 do not need to participate in the early registration as they are considered pre-registered.

The Department encouraged private schools to conduct their respective early registration activities in the same timeframe.

“As we are set to conduct early registration, we remind our school authorities from both public and private schools to strictly implement the Kindergarten cut-off age under DO 020, s. 2018,” Sec. Briones said.

Despite the developing COVID-19 situation in the country, DepEd urged everyone not to be complacent and follow the IATF guidelines and DOH’s minimum health and safety standards.

“In the context of the prevailing COVID-19 public health emergency, the conduct of the early registration shall be done remotely in areas under Alert Levels 3-5. In-person registration through parents or guardians may be allowed in areas under Alert Levels 1-2 provided physical distancing and health and safety protocols are strictly observed,” Briones said.

In 2021, the Department implemented a hybrid set up for the early registration, remote for areas under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) and in-person for areas under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ).

Last year, more than four million learners signed up in the early registration for SY 2021-2022, showing continued support of parents to learning continuity.

Introduced to help DepEd anticipate the number of enrollees for the coming school year, the early registration also ensures the right of all school-aged learners to enroll and be equally provided with quality, accessible, relevant, and liberating basic education.

Moreover, it also seeks to locate, identify, and register out-of-school youth and children, who are in conflict with the law, homeless, living with disabilities, living in off-grid communities and geographically isolated areas, and displaced due to natural disasters and armed conflicts.
