QUEZON CITY, June 16, 2022 – The Department of Education (DepEd), together with key stakeholders and partners, committed to uphold the goals set in the Basic Education Development Plan 2030 (BEDP 2030) during its launch on Friday.

“We need to confront the bottom line and set the trajectory towards 2030. This administration has ventured into developing a long-term plan for basic education to strategically address the immediate impacts of the pandemic on learning, and to also confront the challenge on quality of education,” Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones said.

Considered as the first long-term plan of the Department for basic education that covers Kindergarten to Senior High School including non-formal education, BEDP 2030 aims to address the current challenges faced by the basic education sector through its four pillars, namely access, equity, quality, and resiliency and wellbeing.

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Deputy Representative for Programmes Mr. Behzad Noubary, Philippine Business for Education (PBEd) Executive Director Lovelaine Basillote, Early Childhood Care and Development Council (ECCDC) Executive Director Dr. Teresita Inciong, E-Net Philippines President Prof. Flora Arellano, field officials of DepEd, and other members of the Education Forum for Quality Education (Educ Forum) took the oath of commitment in championing BEDP 2030.

“With DepEd, it took planning to heart. They use a long-term plan as a way forward to solve all the challenges that is facing the Filipino learners. Congratulations to DepEd, and thank you very much for spearheading this initiative,” Senator Sherwin Gatchalian noted.

Meanwhile, Senator Pia Cayetano, Pasig Representative Roman Romulo, Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Director General Isidro Lapena and other stakeholders also expressed their commendation to DepEd for the launch of the BEDP, which is also aligned with AmBisyon Natin 2040 and Sulong Edukalidad.

The 302-page BEDP document will be implemented from 2020 to 2030, fully aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals 2030, with Phase 1 focusing on the immediate impacts of COVID-19 on learning and participation, while Phase 2 will focus on sustaining the gains and evaluating programs.

DepEd and Educ Forum developed BEDP 2030 through a highly participatory and consultative process that considered the views and priorities of all stakeholders in the education sector.

The Plan is intended to be a living document that will be subject to the continuing review and refinements of the incoming DepEd leadership.

“The BEDP 2030 is a progression and enhanced forward projection of the reforms under previous administrations, and the present administration, emphasizing the continuity of the education reform process,” Undersecretary and Chief of Staff Nepomuceno Malaluan said.
