October 2, 2020 – In celebration of the National Teachers’ Month, the Department of Education, together with Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Center for Educational Innovation and Technology (SEAMEO INNOTECH), will conduct the National Teachers’ Month Forum titled “TEACHER MOTIVATION: iTEACH FOR A BETTER FUTURE” on October 2, 2020.
The Forum will feature the findings and recommendations of a study titled “Exploring Teachers’ Whys: Understanding Motivation Among Teachers in the Philippines,” which focuses on the motivation among Filipino teachers.
The study stemmed from Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones’ speech during the SEAMEO Governing Board Meeting held in Manila in 2017 where she emphasized the importance of understanding teachers’ motivations to improve student achievement outcomes.
To answer Secretary Briones’ call, INNOTECH conducted the study to gain a deeper understanding into the main reasons for going into the teaching profession and for pursuing a teaching career.
Aimed to provide policy recommendations that will encourage teachers to join and remain in the Philippine education system, INNOTECH researchers surveyed a total of 107 public elementary and secondary schools from 21 school divisions across 17 regions and some 2,764 teachers were interviewed for the study.
To further understand the research, Senior Specialist and INNOTECH Educational Research Unit Head Dr. Sherlyne Almonte Acosta will present the main findings of the study. UP College of Education Dean Dr. Jerome Buenviaje, Philippine Normal University Former President Dr. Esther B. Ogena, and DepEd Division of Iloilo City Master Teacher II Dr. Alma Janagap will give their reactions to the presented findings.
The Forum will be livestreamed through DepEd Philippines’ and SEAMEO INNOTECH’s Facebook page from 10:00 to 12:00 noon.
The annual Teachers Forum is organized by INNOTECH as part of its contributions to the National Teachers Month Coordinating Council (NTMCC).
