1. Pursuant to Paragraph 3, Section 7, Article XIV of the 1986 Constitution, Spanish 1 to Spanish 4N shall be optional in all courses in the tertiary level. Consequently, Spanish shall no longer be a requirement for graduation.
2. In lieu of Spanish requirement, each school shall require that students take 12 units in either general or professional courses as the school may decide to meet the minimum total number of units for graduation purposes. However, Spanish subjects already taken and passed shall be credited towards graduation requirements.
3. Tertiary level institutions need not request approval of the revision of their curriculum pertaining to Spanish, provided that they shall submit a copy of their curriculum to the regional office.
4. This Order shall take effect starting SY 1987-99 and shall cover all students in all curriculum years.
5. This Order supersedes all department issuances regarding Spanish.
6. Compliance with this Order by all concerned is desired.
