DepEd–RO1 Enhances SHS Teachers Skills, Expertise
San Fernando City, La Union – The Department of Education Regional Office 1 (DepEd-RO1) laid out a Regional Training Implementation Plan (RTIP) for the Mass Training of Teachers (MTOT) in May 2016.
This is in line with the desire of the Department to implement a Capacity Building Program to boost the expertise and skills of the newly hired Senior High School (SHS) Teachers before they will be assigned to their task.
Mr. Oscar P. Flores, Chief Education Supervisor, Quality Assurance Division (QAD) and concurrent Officer-in-Charge, Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD, said there are 2,031 slots in the Region who will teach any of the four tracks of the K to 12 SHS Program upon its full implementation come opening of classes.
As such the teachers will be trained and enriched with the common topics which include the basics of the K to 12 program, vision, mission, assessment, framework and the 21st century learning skills. They will also learn about the Academics; Technical-Vocational-Livelihood; Sports; and the Arts and Design tracks corroborated with their respective strands.
According to Mr. Flores, the training entails couple of days allocation in each of the learning areas. This is to ensure sufficiency of knowledge obtained based on their field of specialization.
The Regional Office coordinated with the Schools Division Superintendents (SDS); Human Resource Development Division (HRDD); Teachers Education Council (TEC); National Educators Academy of the Philippines (NEAP); and the CLMD for a thorough implementation of the capability building program.
