R1AA TEAM LEVELLED UP IN PALARO 2016

City of San Fernando, La Union – After a challenging competition, the Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA) athletes finally got home in high spirits as their journey to Palarong Pambansa 2016 in Legazpi City, Albay ends last Saturday, April 16.

Over-all, Region 1 ranked 14 among the 18 participating regions. It was a notable performance for the R1AA team considering its standing in last year’s PALARO.

The regions’ medal standing for the Regular Sports include five Golds, 11 Silvers, and 21 Bronzes. For the Demonstration Sports, the team received seven Golds, four Silvers and 2 Bronzes. For the Special or Para Games, the special athletes brought home six Golds, four Silvers and ten Bronzes. The R1AA delegation also received special award with trophy and cash prize as the 3rd Most Discipline delegation.

Most of the Golds received from the Regular Sports emanated from the Athletics event followed by the swimming.

“Masayang masaya po ako at proud ako sa inyong napakahusay na  performance ngayong Palarong Pambansa 2016. Salamat sa inyong dedikasyon at pagpupursige. Salamat sa isang napakahusay na pagganap sa inyong tungkulin bilang mga athletes”, Regional Director Alma Ruby C. Torio said during the Thanksgiving Program for the athletes and the host school for Region 1 delegation, the Albay Central School.

This year’s Palarong Pambansa gave the athletes renewed inspiration and dedication to perform better for the next Palaro in Negros this 2017.
