Two Nat’l High Schools in Region I Qualify for PNSQ
San Fernando City, La Union – Regional Director Teresita M. Velasco of the Department of Education Regional Office I (DepEd-ROI) expressed zestfulness as two National High Schools in the Region qualify for this year’s Philippine Nuclear Science Quiz (PNSQ) to be held at the Diamond Hotel, Manila in December 2015.
The Sinait National High School (SNHS) in Sinait, Ilocos Sur and the Dingras National High School (DNHS) in Dingras, Ilocos Norte were announced as winners after they were included in the top four among the 37 participating schools (public and private) in the Cluster Level Elimination Round held at the Vigan Central School covered court in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur last September 2.
The Northern Luzon cluster participants came from Region I (Ilocos Region), Region II (Cagayan Region) and CAR (Cordillera Administrative Region). They underwent a one hour quiz composed of 50 items.
Ms. Abigail D. Clemente, Science Research Specialist of the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI), said that the scope of the exam include Nuclear Science, Basic Nuclear Physics and Radiation Safety Principles. The examination committee considered these topics to promote Nuclear Science and Technology.
In line with the celebration of the 3rd Philippine Nuclear Congress slated also in December, the PNRI in coordination with the DepEd-RO1 and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), conducted the examination to determine qualifiers in the National level.
When asked about their assessment, some of the examinees said that they find the exam very hard and tricky but challenging. Others said the questions are reasonable as they commensurate with what they have learned in class.
Other qualifiers include Philippine Science High School (PSHS), CAR Campus, Baguio City and Cagayan National High School (CNHS).
