Palarong Bicol 2017 hails CamSur as over-all champion; defending champ Naga City slides down to 2nd
Legazpi City –Camarines Sur Division, declared overall champion, dethroned defending champ Naga City Division during the awarding ceremonies held at the Bicol University Sports and Tourism Complex.
With 69 gold medals, it was an aggressive comeback for Camarines Sur who edged out Naga City by just one gold for the championship.
Assistant Regional Director Tolentino G. Aquino, in the Closing Program said it was an impressive comeback for Camarines Sur, “They must have really prepared for this; their Governor must be really proud,” he said.
Last year, Naga City bagged the most number of gold seizing the championship from the strong Camarines Sur Division.
CamSur captured the championship in 2013 and 2015 and 1st runner-up in 2012, 2014. It was only last year when CamSur yielded its might by placing 5th place, after Legazpi City who placed fourth.
This year, Naga City is first runner-up with 68 gold medals, followed by Albay with 53 gold medals and 56 silver medals, then Legazpi City with 53 gold medals and 48 silver medals and Camarines Norte with 51 gold medals.
Palarong Bicol Regional Sports Coordinator and Secretary General Ronald Asis said that it would be CamSur who will represent the Bicol Team to the 2017 Palarong Pambansa in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique on April 10-16, 2017.
CamSur however will be given the privilege to pick and include, at most, three top athletes from the other divisions to reinforce muscles in some team events. (MMLJ)
