Deped holds Bicol Color Fun Run for Bicolano athletes

Legazpi City – The Department of Education Region V successfully conducted its simultaneous fun run for a cause called “Bicol Color Fun Run” last Saturday, March 04, 2017.

A total of about 15K runners who registered and joined the color fun run was reported to the organizers of the said activity.

Engr. Ronald C. Asis, Education Support and Services Division head of DepEd Region V and Secretary General of the Palarong Bicol Board said that Albay and Legazpi City Schools Divisions had the most number of participants in the said activity who gathered around 4,000 runners at the Embarcadero de Legazpi. There were also some 1,000 runners who participated in CamSur and in Naga, Camarines Norte having 950 runners, Sorsogon City with 500 while in Masbate City having 989 participants.

Asis explained that the funds raised in the said activity will be used to support the Bicolano athletes who are about to compete for the Palarong Pambansa in Antique this coming April. He added that their primary concern right now is to improve the designated billeting centers for the Bicolano athletes.

“We will use the funds collected during the event to support our athletes in Palarong Pambansa. We will also allocate funds for the improvement of our billeting center in San Jose Elementary School Antique,” Asis further said.

The said event was hosted by the different schools divisions of DepEd Region V and was supported by the LGU Officials and other government and non-government agencies.

After the fun run, a team from DepEd Region V headed by Assistant Regional Director Tony Aquino will visit Antique this coming March 15 to check on the venue.

Bicol Region, along with other regions are now preparing for the biggest competition of student athletes in Palarong Pambansa 2017 scheduled this coming April 23-28, 2017 in San Jose de Buenavista in Antique.
