Eastern Visayas celebrates World Teachers’ Day
More than 3500 teachers and administrators of DepEd Region 8 came together to celebrate World Teachers’ Day yesterday, October 5, 2016 at Tacloban City, Leyte.
The day started off with a Zumba and Fun Walk Activities which were conducted in the City Hall grounds and around Tacloban downtown area respectively.
Participants then proceeded to the Tacloban City Convention Center for the Ecumenical services and the Opening program which were attended by the two honorable guests from the Central Office – Undersecretary Dina S. Ocampo and Undersecretary Jesus Lorenzo R. Mateo. The event was also graced by the former Regional Director of DepEd Region 8, Dr. Luisa Bautista-Yu and the Hon. City Mayor Cristina G. Romualdez, who also delivered inspiring messages for the teachers.
The opening program finished off with a “Flash Mob” which was enjoyed by the participants.
A “One-Stop-Shop”, where teachers availed free services and treats such as massages, hairdos, haircuts and the like, was open for all. Some government units and private companies (e.g. Rose Pharmacy, PCBS, Pag-IBIG, GSIS, etc.) also opened booths in the area for the teachers to inquire or get discounts from. While this was happening in the Convention Center, a Press Conference was conducted in the Schools Division Office of Tacloban City with respected media partners together with Usec. Dina S. Ocampo and Usec. Jesus Lorenzo R. Mateo, DepEd RO8 OIC-Regional Director, Ramir B. Uytico, CESO IV and OIC-Asst. Regional Director Atty. Rhoan L. Orebia.
While every division had their own ways of celebrating the World Teachers Day, Tacloban City Division had their DepEd Holywood Night for the teachers to enjoy a unique diversion from the usual classroom routine – the glitz and glamour celebration of the World Teachers Day.
The Regional Director expressed his gratitude the host division, Tacloban City Division and to those who worked hard in putting up a well-organized series of activities.
