Atty. Paolo Mikael E. Quilala serves as the Director of the Internal Audit Service (IAS) at the Department of Education (DepEd). In this capacity, he assists Secretary Sonny Angara in his efforts to strengthen governance, transparency, and risk management by ensuring the department’s compliance with laws, policies, and regulations to enhance its accountability and operational efficiency.

Before joining DepEd, Atty. Quilala served in the Senate, working under then-Senator Sonny Angara. During his tenure, he provided technical and policy support, presided over technical working groups, and contributed to legislative measures aimed at fostering economic progress and public sector reform. His involvement extended to key Senate bodies, including the Committee on Finance, the Subcommittee on Ways and Means, the Subcommittee on Trade, and the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM II).

Prior to his work in the Senate, he was a Solicitor at the Office of the Solicitor General where he represented the Philippine Government in civil, criminal, and special proceedings before the Regional Trial Courts, the Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court.

Atty. Quilala earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of the Philippines Diliman, where he also pursued law at the UP College of Law.
