DIR. GERSON MARVIN M. ABESAMIS

Gerson is an educator and designer who brings a human-centered approach to shaping learning experiences and environments. He is currently the director of the Education Futures Office at the Department of Education, leading efforts to make sense of emerging trends and translate them into actionable strategies. His work focuses on building DepEd’s internal capacity for futures thinking, collaborating with research institutions, and co-creating plans and programs with DepEd offices and bureaus.
Before joining DepEd, he co-founded and served as Executive Director of Habi Education Lab, a learning experience design studio that works alongside educators, students, school leaders, and organizations to design meaningful learning solutions. His career spans teaching design and innovation at multiple levels—secondary schools like Philippine Science High School and Raya School, college and graduate programs at UP College of Education and Miriam College, and teacher training with the Commission on Higher Education.
Beyond the classroom, Gerson has worked as an experience designer for global companies like Pearson New York, Technicolor London, and PwC London. He has been recognized as a fellow in the WISE Qatar Emerging Leaders Programme and the Obama Foundation’s Asia Pacific Leaders Programme. He holds a BA in Film from the University of the Philippines and a Master’s in Technology, Innovation, and Education from Harvard University.
