Miss Marivic R. Leaño is the eldest of the brood of six girls born to a public school teacher and a government employee. Raised to value work and public service, she has been a Department of Education official for thirty three years now. She started her career with DepEd as a Guidance Counselor and Officer-in-Charge of the Values Education Department of the largest public high school in Malabon City – The Malabon National High School. There she organized and trained peer counselors’ groups that served as support groups for at-risk pupils. She organized career campaigns which included university campus tours, career camps among others to recruit more graduates into pursuing tertiary education. She spearheaded drug awareness and prevention campaigns which included random drug testing. Her love for the youth and her passion for service prompted her to stay at Malabon National High School for more than fifteen years.
In April, 2003 she was invited to join the newly created Schools Division of Malabon and Navotas as the Education Program Supervisor in-charge of Values Education and Guidance and Counseling. Among her accomplishments as Education Program Supervisor include being the focal person for the School-Based Management (SBM) System Roll-out, member of the TWG of the policy development and the pilot implementation of the Philippine Accreditation System for basic Education (PASBE), focal person for the TAO-NURTURES (Nurturing Talents and Utilizing Resources for Effective School Leadership) Project – a training program for school heads and administrators in partnership with the SEAMEO INNOTECH. She was also in-charge of the SDO Special Education Program. She was able to help establish three additional SPED Centers at the Division of Malabon and Navotas and launch the “Annual Division SPED Palaro”. She served as Education Program supervisor for ten years.
Having passed the Career Executive Written Examination in 2013, she opted to apply to a third level position. She successfully qualified both in the Regional Search and the National Search. Consequently, she was immediately assigned to the DepEd Division of Pasig City as the Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Assistant Schools Division Superintendent. As OIC-ASDS, she chaired the Bids-and-Awards Committee and the Personnel Selection Board. She spearheaded the implementation of the Rationalization Plan of 2013 of the DepEd Division Office of Pasig. She also monitored the implementation of the development of the SDO’s Citizen Charter and the establishment of the Division’s Quality Management System. She was conferred with CES eligibility in 2015 after completing the 4th level of assessment of the CES Board. She served as OIC-ASDS in two DepEd Divisions, including the Schools Division of Manila, where she stayed until her designation as Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Director III at the Bureau of Education Assessment at the DepEd-Central Office. She was appointed as Director III of the same Bureau on January 27, 2022.

As BEA Director III, Ms. Leaño worked on the development of Computer-Based assessment in the Bureau of Education Assessment, as innovation in response to the health emergency brought on by the COVID-19 Pandemic. She is also part of the team that conducted the monitoring and evaluation study on the first decade of implementation of the K to 12 basic Education Program. She also managed the National Learning Camp Assessment. It is DepEd’s first attempt at an online computer-based assessment for all Junior High School Learners in the country.
